The visit of students from the African continent to Space Camp Türkiye in Izmir is yet another powerful example of the camp’s global reach and its transformative impact on education. These kinds of international experiences not only support personal growth but also contribute to the long-term development of scientific capacity in students' home countries.
A 4,500 KM SPACE JOURNEY FROM RWANDA TO IZMIR
A group of African students traveled 4,500 kilometers from Rwanda to take part in the international educational program at Space Camp Türkiye—an experience designed to offer young people from around the world a unique blend of science, discovery, and inspiration.
The group, made up of 13 students aged 9 to 15, joined the camp’s Customized Outer Space Adventure program, where they experienced a dynamic, hands-on learning environment focused on space and science.
Their program included two immersive space simulations: a mission to space aboard the Discovery Space Shuttle simulator and a lunar mission using the Aurora simulator. Students also explored astronaut training simulators, practiced building a Mars colony, and engaged in robotics activities, all of which allowed them to apply scientific concepts through interactive, experiential learning.
At the end of the camp, one of the group’s accompanying teachers, Alfred Kotey, shared his reflections:
“My students didn’t just have fun with science — they gained knowledge and confidence. They trained like astronauts, worked together as a team, and developed a real interest in science and space. Many of them said they already want to return before they’ve even left. I believe this experience will inspire them to become pioneers in the field of space back in Africa.”
The Choice of International Schools: Space Camp Türkiye
As one of only two space camps in the world, Space Camp Türkiye—located in Izmir—offers STEM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) programming that complements international school curricula while providing a world-class educational experience.
With a focus on both academic and personal development, the camp also promotes intercultural exchange and scientific awareness, creating a unique environment where students thrive, connect, and grow.
